Small but terrible – that is how Chihuahuas are known to be. Chihuahuas are small dogs, but they have big personalities. If they are not feeling well, they will surely let you know. Due to this breed’s small size, Chihuahuas can be dehydrated in a short span of time. That is why when your Chihuahua starts displaying symptoms of an upset stomach, treatment, and medication should be administered immediately. Below are some tips on how to cure a dog’s stomach ache.

This remedy might sound mean but, you should restrict all the foods and treats, and limit his water intake for 12 to 24 hours for adult dogs. Just like humans, your dog can heal itself and fasting can undoubtedly allow your dog’s stomach to rest. Your dog can recover from possible inflammation of the intestines, to clear itself up hopefully.

  • Keep your dog hydrated. – After a period of fasting, make sure that your dog will stay hydrated. Yes, you can limit his water intake for the first 24 hours, but after that, you have to keep him well hydrated. This is essential if he is experiencing diarrhea wherein he will lose a lot of amount of fluids. Also, do not assume that you can prevent dehydration by just offering him water. Your Chihuahua also needs vitamins and electrolytes to retain fluids.

  • Give him food additions. Sweet potatoes (rich in fiber), pumpkin, bananas, and oatmeal are some of the soft foods which are best for your dog’s upset stomach. They can just be an addition to your dog’s meal to help relieve chronic stomach upset.
